At Next Level ABA, we believe children should have opportunities to practice meaningful skills in the environments where they live, learn, play, and interact with others.
Community inclusion focuses on helping children develop the skills and confidence they need to participate more successfully in everyday activities and community settings.
Building Skills Beyond the Clinic
Depending on each child’s individualized treatment plan, community-based skill development may focus on areas such as:
- Communicating wants, needs, and preferences
- Following directions and safety instructions
- Practicing appropriate social interactions
- Increasing independence
- Participating in recreational activities
- Developing appropriate behavior in public settings
- Learning how to navigate community environments
- Practicing waiting and transitioning between activities
- Developing functional life skills
- Increasing tolerance for new environments and experiences
Learning Through Real-Life Experiences
Children often learn best when skills are meaningful and connected to their everyday lives.
Community-based learning can provide opportunities to practice skills in natural environments such as parks, recreational activities, stores, libraries, restaurants, and other appropriate community settings.
The goal is not simply to teach a skill in isolation. The goal is to help children use that skill in real life.
Building Confidence and Independence
Community participation can help children develop confidence while increasing their ability to navigate everyday experiences.
Our team works with families to identify meaningful goals that support the child’s development and promote greater independence.
We understand that progress can look different for every child. For one child, success may mean communicating with another person. For another, it may mean safely participating in a community activity or completing an everyday task more independently.
